Avelez Hotel in Biloxi, built in the late 1920s, was one of many hotels on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that offered gambling activities. Located on Howard Street, room rates were $1.50 to $5.00, with tub or shower. It was demolished in the 1950s. Postcard courtesy Deanne Nuwer.
Foxwoods Resort Casino at Biloxi Pointe will be located at the end of 8th Street on the site of the former Heinz plant in the Back Bay area of Biloxi, Mississippi. It will become the 9th casino on the Bay, with another opening before 2016 on the other side of the bay. The $265 million facility is expected to open in the spring of 2019. The Biloxi Belle Casino, owned by Mississippi Riverboat Amusement Corporation, announced plans for a dockside gaming vessel at Biloxi to open in late summer of early fall.
